Yet another day has passed me by in a tired haze. I've been getting a lot of those lately...
Could it be due to the fact that I don't usually fall asleep until after midnight?...Hmmm....
Work today was rather uninteresting, as usual, but it did take me longer so I didn't have to wander aimlessly with my bucket of water and cleaning stuff to make it look like I was doing something, which was a good thing I suppose. Plus I only have two more days this week and two next week. Awesome.
Tour is next week. I can't wait. It's going to be such a blast!!!
Any who, the one thing I do remember from today is English class. We're currently reading To Kill A Mockingbird which doesn't really interest me as much as some others have, but today in class we watched a video called The Murder of Emmett Till.
It was...infuriating.
Emmett Till was a 14 year old African American from Chicago, when he decided to go visit some family down in Mississippi. While there he whistled at a white woman. A bunch of people got pissed, kidnapped him in the middle of the night then beat the crap out of him before shooting him and throwing him into a nearby river with a 75lbs piece of machinery strapped around his neck.
The two men who did it were found not gulity by an all white jury and they were set free. Afterwards they sold the story of how they killed Emmett to a magazine for around 4,000 dollars. This was pretty much the spark that set off the Civil Rights Movement, which was a very good thing. But honestly, how the hell can someone do that? To a KID. Just because he was a black kid who whistled at a white woman. Absoultely ridiculous.
If there is a hell I hope those two are there. They very well would deserve it.
